Good answer Racecube. Spread would certainly be a factor if it's not set to SPD:1. The number of notes in the PAD isn't fixed, it can also vary with the chord and chord type, key and mode.
Understand that this could be troublesome if you were trying to make specific chords, but we designed it to play Pad type patches rather than as a generic chord player and it does voicing tricks to sound good in that context.
