Midi mystery: NDLR with a Behringer Edge.
Posted by: Hypnodrone - 11-13-2024, 02:41 PM - Forum: Hardware MIDI Connectivity - Replies (3)

Has anyone used their ? I use the NDLR as a controller hub for 3 - 4 hardware synths and have had no issues connecting them with 5-pin midi.
However the Edge behaves oddly. It works as intended with other midi gear like keyboards and as a slave for other hardware synths.
When I connect it to the NDLR for motif or drone duty it will trig once but then not trig again. If I trig the Edge manually with the dedicated trig button or by external cv though it's patchbay it will play the motif as intended until I remove the trig source. Almost as if the NDLR does not send sufficient velocity to it. NDLR CC value is set to 127 and 75% and changing those does not help.
A very specific issue and not very important, but it annoys me that I don't understand why it behaves like this.

NDLR via MRCC no activity when using USB
Posted by: Salieri - 11-08-2024, 11:30 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (3)

Hello,
I received my NDLR today, successfully updated the firmware and I'm trying to use MRCC's USB Port A (using the cable which I received with NDLR) to send NDLR's MIDI out to my synths. All synths are connected via DIN,

No computer involved.

For testing, I've set NDLR's MIDI config to 4 all, 1 all, 2 all, 3 all. MRCC shows no activity at all on any virtual cable in Port A (the same when I try port B.
For testing, too, I've set my synths to omni mode.

When using DIN, there is no problem, but I try to save MRCC's precious last two free DIN in ports for other controllers, and the USB option between MRCC and NDLR looks much more elegant to me.

What did I overlook?

P.S:The blue LED over MRCC's device port is always on, no cable connected. Is this normal?

  mrcc as replacement for midex
Posted by: ruud - 11-04-2024, 09:09 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

hi all,
im running an analog studio with about 50 synths and 15 drum machines. most are synced with midi clock to a pc running Cubase. The only way this setup stays in sync, is with a now very ancient Cubase version and the connected Steinberg Midex8. It runs all machines, whether ancient or new, in perfect clock sync. As soon as i try other midi interfaces or other DAWs, things turn into a big mess timing-wise.

Id love to upgrade this setup as its getting very old, but simply said, nothing else works as good as this, apart from my old Atari ST. I see the MRCC specifically aimed at larger setups like this. has anyone replaced their Midex with this interface? Or are there PC users (Win10) that have similar setups and have this working with the MRCC? I typically have 4-5 drum machines (both old and new, also via midi-din sync converters) and 5-10 synths running internal sequencers and/or arpeggiators at the same time, some being triggered or transposed via midi notes in cubase. im not running 100s of tracks, or enornous amounts of cc/sysex/aftertouch etc data, on the contrary.

thank you for any answers!

  Drone and Pad
Posted by: Tantodanne - 10-31-2024, 05:58 AM - Forum: Feature Requests - No Replies

Hello
Thanks for a great jamming toy

Regarding Pad
It would be a great advantage if rhythm could control pad strum 1. Pattern can control together with rhythm the other strummers.
The Range and Spread encoder
After spread 6 it would be nice if Pattern 1-40 came in and pattern length could be controlled with Range. I don't know if it is possible to program it by adding the Pattern function.

The Position and Strum encoder
After strum 7 continue with Rhythm and add a third function on the encoder which becomes rhythm length. It all depends on whether it is possible to add after without it taking up too much space in the programming

Regarding drones.
Notes
It would be a great asset if you could get a fourth tone (the 4th)
When you then modulate it by going between 4th and 5th…..
Trigger
After the last trigger switch to rhytm
Is it possible to have four functions on an encoder, like that, you can insert rhythm length there?

  Chromatic is fixed
Posted by: Tantodanne - 10-31-2024, 05:53 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

Hello
Thanks for a great jamming toy

After buying it for 6 years ago and NDLR it on and off during the first few years until covid when I packed up my studio and moved a lot of boxes home.
So the other day I opened one of it and found my NDLR again (looking for something else)
After a couple of evenings I made the stupid mistake of updating the firmware to the latest v1.1.086
So there I sat and started a project and found to my horror that in the Patter editor note type Chromatic was fixed, i.e. the notes did not follow the chord changes but the same figure is stuck in an eternal monotonous gnawing

Furthermore, the scale is also fixed, which for me personally has little meaning (more than that NDLR can no longer come up with surprising tone sequences, maybe not always musically correct every time but always as welcome as an extra spice (as jazz once did and now for the time experimental music offers)
I found a thread where you changed it to fixed texture and I'm sure not everyone wants the chromatic to be fixed.

Please change it back because after you removed that function NDLR has become…. to be honest, I thought I had more variations in the old firmware

Or give us the option to choose both. Personal taste…

MIDI sync drift on chord changes
Posted by: csaoh - 10-27-2024, 10:21 AM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (1)

Hello,

I've had the NDLR for around a year, and there's a weird behaviour that I noted basically since the beginning, but never got to post about it, however it concerns a feature that i progressively miss more and more, and I would love to see it addressed in a firmware update.

My issue is that if the drone rhythm is set to anything else than "no cadence" and the chord changes are sequenced, sometimes (actually quite often, i'd say 2 times out of 3) one extra note from the "previous" chord is played before switching to a new one.

In my setup the main clock comes from a Boss RC-500 looper, and for a while I thought the issue was that it might not be very accurate (e.g when I set the bpm to 100, on the NDLR it oscillates between around 99.7 and 101.2), but I just tried using an Elektron Syntakt as the main clock, and the issue stays exactly the same. I'm using Midi in B in both cases btw.

In both cases a workaround I found is to offset the chord changes back in time (basically sending the chord change CC a liiiiitle bit earlier, like -3ms on the Oxi One or 1/384 on the Syntakt), then everything immediately works fine, however that's not always the most convenient when playing live, and it feels a tad bit hacky; besides I feel like there's a higher chance of the issue being on the NDLR side rather than it coming from two different devices at the same time.

Here's a link to a video I took to demonstrate the issue https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dcFeygQ...NZOWV/view

In the beginning i'm using "no cadence" and then switch to all quarter notes, and as you can see the switch seems to happen fine enough on the third note, but almost never on the first and the second one.

Thanks in advance for your time and potential advice Smile

  Mrcc and Cubase
Posted by: NeilTimbers - 10-26-2024, 02:45 PM - Forum: Computer MIDI Connectivity - Replies (3)

I've installed my MRCC into my studio and want to use it as my main hub for all my synthesizers midi communication with Cubase on my pc.
I can see the mrcc ports in Cubase but there is no communication happening between my DAW and the synths.
Anyone use Cubase with the mrcc here and can enlighten me a little?
I can use the mrcc stand alone with the keyboards with no issues.
What I need is a cubase/mrcc tutorial or quick guide

Sending Laptop USB midi TO MRCC
Posted by: awvantage - 10-19-2024, 06:14 AM - Forum: Computer MIDI Connectivity - Replies (1)

Hi

Conundrum here:

New Arturia Midi Controller is now USB C only (cheers Arturia) so...

1. Arturia to Macbook USB C

2. Macbook to Caldigit Hub USB C

3. Caldigit Hub to MRCC USA A to Host Port

What must I do to send USB Midi from 1 to 3?

Forgive me if I'm being thick but this device doesn't work the way my brain does...

  phantasmal force midi controller
Posted by: Jpilarski - 10-17-2024, 09:24 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

I have a usb midi device called the phantasmal force I've successfully used with my mrcc for quite some time. They recently came out with a new firmware for the device and after installing the firmware it immediately locks up the mrcc. I can plug the PF into several other midihosts such as op1 field, my PC, the retrokits rk-6 and it works great with all of those but the mrcc is not happy. If I plug it into one of the 4 usb ports after the mrcc is running the mrcc will provide power to the various connected devices and all it's leds stay on and all connected devices stay powered but the mrcc screen is unresponsive and iit no longer appears to be processing any incoming or outgoing midi. If I start up the mrcc with the PF already plugged into a usb port the leds chase about halfway on the mrcc and the mrcc just hangs there. How can I try to troubleshoot this further. I really need the PF to use one of the usb ports in this case because of how messages are routed to the other devices. While the PF can send midi over trs I need to use usb midi to use an external clock. Please let me know what is a good next step to begin sorting out this issue. It is a usb midi compliant device and it uses an M0 arm processor with Uf2 bootloader. I tried unplugging many of the other devices on the mrcc and removing any midi routings to and from the port and I tried other usb ports too but the response is the same.

  Chords not in the key
Posted by: Stuey99 - 10-10-2024, 06:09 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Sorry if this has already been covered (I'm new to the NDLR I couldn't find out).

Can a chord that's not in the key of the song be used to replace a current one?  For example we play a song in the key of B but there's also a A major in there too.  If this is possible - can it then be saved as a preset as such?

Thank you for any info.
